OPEN CALLS for Students:
Cinedans LAB Student Pitch '23

Are you a student in an art institution in the Netherlands? And are you developing a dance film, installation or media project that could use an expert’s eye to elevate it to the next level?

Cinedans LAB invites students in the Netherlands to submit their new project proposals in which dance and movement form the leading narrative. Five projects will be selected and get the chance to pitch their plan to industry professionals during Cinedans FEST in March ’23.

The winner will win a prize of € 500,- and receive advise for the development of the plan.

Requirements:

- Students in the 3 or 4 year of their study in a Dutch based institution of any art discipline are eligible for applying.

- Project proposals can include film, installations and any kind of (interdisciplinary) media. It is essential that your project includes dance or choreography as a leading component.

CANON & CINEDANS present: Masterclass Capturing Movement
24 March in EYE Filmmuseum Amsterdam

Open Call for Students for one-day Masterclass about filming movement and improving filming skill by award winning film directors Andrew Margetson and Daphne Lucker.

The focus is on filming movement - how exactly do you do that? And what technical equipment do you use to do so? Margetson and Lucker will talk from their own area of expertise and give tips & tricks on camera work, technical aspects and preparation. Participants will have the chance to work on their film skills through an assignment, supported by the two professionals, using and testing the professional equipment under the supervision of a Canon expert.

Andrew Margetson (UK) is a London based and award-winning director of commercials and dancefilms. Margetson has become known as one of the foremost directors of choreography. His work with superstar dancers such as Lil Buck, Keone and Mari, Marianela Nunez and Lauren Cuthbertson has brought him a raft of awards. His passion for working with actors and dancers has led him writing and directing beautifully crafted narrative shorts, the latest shown at Cinedans FEST ’22. www.margetson.com

Daphne Lucker (The Netherlands) is an Amsterdam based director and photographer. Graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy with the short film SISTERS. This film has won several prizes., among others the Cinedans International Student Award, in 2019, sponsored by Canon. Lucker is currently working on her feature film. www.daphnelucker.com

REQUIREMENTS
Students from film, dance, drama, visual arts and postgraduate institutions interested in filming movement and wanting to improve their filming skills, are invited to apply. Basic camera skills and knowledge of editing programs are recommended.

There will be a selection made from all the received applications. A short agreement will be sent to you after the confirmation of your selection.

Canon is the sponsoring partner of the International Student Competition since 2015. This award and competition are a great encouragement and incentive for students at home and abroad for future filmmakers who create a new visual language through dance and film. Following an earlier successful 'capturing movement' workshop, Canon and Cinedans are again offering students the opportunity to learn more about how best to capture movement in a creative way. www.canon.nl

EMBODIED PRESENCE IN CINEMA WORKSHOP:

Students from dance, drama and visual Dutch art academies and post-academic educational institutions are now invited to sign up for the workshop:
The Body is the Message, Embodied Presence in Cinema by dancemaker and interdisciplinary doctoral Karel Tuytschaever.

In this three-day interdisciplinary research class about embodiment in relation to lens-based media, a selection of Belgian and Dutch students are invited to come together and share their interest in the theme of Embodiment in Cinema.

The research class is free of charge, full attendance during the three days is mandatory.
